why you should be looking for secondhand 90s-00s brands
dear millennials, trust me on this one
Hi friends! This week, I’m very excited to share my first Vinted tips edition of trouvé.
And yes, we’re going to throw it back to brands you probably haven’t thought of in years.
Also, be sure to stick around for a lil drop at the end of the post 😏
A little bit of context
Today’s fast fashion brands are selling 90s & y2k inspired clothes. But they’re terrible quality (and let’s not even get started on the ethics).
That pinstripe blazer you noticed at Zara? I’ll find you a much nicer on Vinted that’s actually from the 90s (I even shared one in my last drop!).
It’s time to start searching for those brands again
Because it’s a great (cheap) way to find fun, unique, every day clothing items.
Some of my best finds are from using the following search terms. The latest being my mid-season trench coat from Chipie, of all places.
All you need to do is take a little trip down memory lane…follow me…
Remember 🥹?
Ok, so that’s the tip: search for those nostalgic brands. Easy enough right?
Well, yes, but as always with secondhand: there’s a bit of a process and a lot of patience.
The process
Shortlist the brands to search for
Some inspo to get you started: NafNaf, Kookai, Pimkie, Jennyfer, Camaieu, Miss Sixty, Morgan de toi, Promod, Etam, Esprit, Banana Republic, United Colors of Benetton, Sisley, Caroll, DKNYIn Vinted, type in the brand name + “vintage”
I’ve also played around adding “y2k” or “90s” to my search terms but those are a bit overused by Vinted sellers who add them as hashtags on new items from Zara, Weekday, Mango, Shein (🥴) etc.Spot the labels in the photos! 🔎
Most of these brands have updated their branding since the 90s. Look for photos of their logos to double-check it’s legit vintage.
Unsure if it’s their old or new logo? Google will tell you in a second and you’ll be a pro at spotting these in no time!
Scrolling and patience are your friends
It's far from a perfect science. You will still see loads of current-day items 🥲. But look closely: I promise you there are some gems hidden there!Save your searches and come back to them
Maybe today's results don’t yield many results. But come back to these searches next time you log on and you might just find something!Favorite articles you like
Even if you don’t ever buy them! Favoriting items is the best way to teach Vinted’s algorithm what you like.
Note: not to be captain obvious, but always narrow down results with your size(s).
5 items I found this week using this process
The proof is in the pudding (I’ve always wanted to use this expression): below five fun items I spotted using these search terms.
NafNaf cozy leather jacket

It’s tempting to think the cold days are behind us. But don’t be fooled: March is a big tease and it’s still too early to say goodbye to our coats for the year. This cute jacket can carry you through those last cold days, and you’ll be so happy to wear it again next November!
Size: M/38
Price: 24.99€
Morgan denim midi skirt

Midi skirts are great to ease into warmer days. You can start showing some skin without being fully confronted with how pale your legs are 🫠. I love the multiple denim washes on this one.
Size: M/38
Price: 10€
DKNY asymmetric sweater

A fun option for “lighter-sweater” season. I love that the collar is a bit asymmetric, so it’s a bit more interesting than your basic beige sweater.
Size: M/38
Price: 30€
Promod v-neck tank top

This top just makes me excited for the summer. The color is so pretty and the crossed back detail is lovely. They just don’t make ‘em like this anymore, guys! (Or at least not at Promod, and not for 10€…)
Size: S/36
Price: 10€
Sisley skirt suit

I own a skirt suit and guess what? It’s from vintage Jennyfer! This one seems to be in perfect shape and quite modern (so you don’t immediately look like a working woman from the 90s). Also they’re great basics to wear separately.
Size: L/40
Price: 25€
Bonus! Cacharel vinyl trench

I just can’t limit myself to 5 items! A cute trench to make rainy days a bit less depressing.
Size: S/36
Price: 65€
So: thoughts? Have you also been relying on these good old brands in your Vinted search? What were your go-to 90s-00s brands? Is Gen Z onto something?
Also, what do you think of this post format? Reply or comment, I want to hear from you :)
Happy searchings and findings, les amis 🔮

Thank you for all these amazing finds !! I don’t understand how you manage to resist the urge to buy them 😅
I think the length and structure of this newsletter are perfect, it’s easy to read and gives concrete tips. I also liked the screenshot of your searches ! People being good at finding unique items on Vinted have always been a mystery to me, so maybe thanks to you I’ll become one of them haha!
Looking forward to the next one :)
